Arctic sea ice minimum: 4.02 million sq.km. Throughout the rest of this freezing season, new low pressure areas will form near the North Pole, bringing in warm air and water, and pushing ice towards the shores of Canada and Alaska, where the ice will end up being relatively thick on spring. But, by summer, the halocline in the Eurasian Basin has ceased to exist, further diminishing the volume on new ice formation this year. In September, the ice margin on American side is pretty close to average. On the other hand, the European side ice margin runs from Ellesmere Island to New Siberian Islands, following the Lomonosov Ridge. North Pole will be free of ice.
